Forgotten Tales of Turopolje Groves
In the rich Croatian intangible heritage the belief in the supernatural still persists; the belief in personified forces of nature that men fears and worships. These forces are never just good or evil, there is a dualism in their nature, and in order to keep them in balance one must abide. Such is the beleif in MOGUT. The Mogut is the village protector. No one knows him, but everyone knows he exists and that he is a higher force that watches over the village. There are stories that people used to meet the Mogut here and there. It is mentioned that the Mogut can turn into fish, a pig or a dragon. Otherwise he appears in his human form, as a tall man with a big black hat, in a long woolen coat, leaning against an oak tree.
